Erica’s Story

Erica Deligne is a breast cancer survivor, TEDx speaker, patient advocate, and healthcare marketing professional with more than 15 years of experience in marketing, communications, and brand development.

Following her diagnosis with Stage 1 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma in 2021, Erica faced life-changing decisions about her treatment and surgical options. After undergoing a double mastectomy, she chose aesthetic flat closure (AFC), a decision that profoundly shaped her understanding of patient autonomy, informed consent, and the importance of comprehensive patient education.

Through her experience, Erica recognized a critical gap between the clinical information patients receive and the emotional, physical, and practical realities of life after treatment. What began as personal advocacy evolved into a mission to help healthcare organizations better educate, represent, and support the patients they serve.

Through her advocacy and global community, Erica has connected with hundreds of women around the world navigating a breast cancer diagnosis, surgical decisions, and survivorship. By listening to their stories and experiences, she has gained valuable insight into the recurring challenges patients face, from gaps in surgical education and informed decision-making to body image, emotional well-being, and life after treatment. These conversations have strengthened her understanding of the diverse needs of breast cancer patients and reinforced her commitment to ensuring their voices are heard and represented within healthcare.

In March 2026, Erica shared her journey on the TEDxMarshallU stage with her talk, "Beauty From Within: Choosing to Go Flat After Mastectomy", challenging conventional beauty standards while advocating for greater awareness of all surgical options available following mastectomy.

Her advocacy has also extended to the fashion industry, where she served as creative director and stylist for the Cancer Culture x AnaOno Intimates runway presentation during New York Fashion Week, amplifying survivor voices and raising awareness of metastatic breast cancer.

Bridging Lived Experience and Healthcare Expertise

As the founder of DD Advocacy, Erica combines her lived experience as a breast cancer survivor, insights gained from women around the world, and her extensive background in healthcare marketing and strategic communications to help breast centers, cancer programs, and healthcare organizations strengthen patient education and survivorship support.

Through patient education consulting, advisory panels, educational resources, and survivorship initiatives, she works to identify communication gaps, elevate patient perspectives, and encourage more inclusive, patient-centered approaches to care.

Erica believes that informed decision-making begins with education and that every patient deserves access to balanced information, meaningful representation, and compassionate support.

Her mission is simple: To help bridge the gap between clinical care and the lived patient experience, ensuring women feel informed, heard, and empowered throughout their healthcare journey.
